Hi everyone
Welcome to the blog about the Museums Australia WA Archives. I aim to update the blog regularly to talk about different factors of the archives- the good, the bad, the utterly confusing, the treasures, administrative stuff, resources, free stuff, general rant. You name it.
A little about me- I have been with MAWA since early 2008- I did a practicum through UWA and I have been hanging around ever since. I am currently doing post-grad Cultural Heritage Studies at Curtin. I also work at a local studies collection. Not having an academic background in archiving has proved a little troublesome at times, but luckily there are plenty of free resources out there (which I will share with ya'll) and people that are more than happy to help with any questions you have!
I hope that you can all use this blog to talk about your own archives...anything and everything to do with them. Share some of those treasures with the other museumswa members, or if you have a nagging question- why not throw it over to the members for discussion and feedback?
MAWA is also very excited to have Cheryl, Semester 2 Arts Practicum Student from UWA, joining the MAWA team. Her pet-project will be the archives.
Since the beginning of 2009 we have been in the process of creating box listings for the archives. We have a digital copy, a hard copy, and have also placed a copy of the listing within the actual box. We are yet to have a record of the archives on an external drive/hard copies, which will live elsewhere (in case a freak fire or something occurs)...But is definatly on the 'to do' list
How does everyone out there back up their archival record? Digital, hard copy, external drive copy, not at all?
Until next time.....
Jenna
