Equipment responsible to bringing together scattered Western Australian communities for many decades and helping to mould the social fabric and unique Australian culture is now being offered to regional community museums as a reminder of an almost forgotten phase in their local history.
In the early decades of the last century, scattered rural communities relied on the regular visits of the traveling picture show man with his heavy and bulky equipment to…

Today is the start of Museum Week in Western Australia.
Thank you to all who registered their events and everyone is invited to check out the great list of events both country and metro on the Museum Week 2012 tag.

Museums Australia (WA) hosted a curator's talk based on this exhibition on Thursday night and curators, Paul Bridges and Stephen Anstey gave all who attended…

Spent the afternoon at the Immigration Museum today and didn't have enough time to see and do everything.
Very powerful exhibitions right throughout and some that were so simple yet really hit the spot.
Interesting that nearly all exhibitions provided paper and pens for people to add their comments or personal viewpoints to the subject on display. In some cases these comments provided the most evocative thoughts.

This great new idea was launched at the opening on=f the MA VIC state conference yesterday (Thursday 29 March)
http://victoriancollections.net.au/
This allows all museums in Victoria to catalogue their collections online, and has the added advantage of promoting your museum and knowing where objects are if you are looking to borrow objects for an exhibition.
