Digitising collections

Are you in the process of digitising your collection? Or have you already digitised your collection?

I am interested to hear all about your experiences with the process, regardless of size or the content of your collection. Perhaps you have had experience with digitising a small museum collection, or perhaps you have digitised your own personal collections?

What were the obstacles you encountered along the way? Were there any neat tricks that helped make the process more manageable and efficient? Any special words of wisdom you can impart upon those that wish to begin the process?

Is it necessary to purchase the latest and greatest technology for the purpose? What kind of set up did or do you use for the purpose of digitising? For example, what kind of cameras, camera stands, scanners, computers, software etc did you purchase, and why?
